The Game
short film
A Game is a short film directed by Marwa Zein and starring Laila Samy, produced as a graduation project at the Higher Institute of Cinema in Cairo (2009). Adapted from the short story “Let’s Play a Game” by Italian writer Alberto Moravia, the film explores the delicate psychological tension between a divorced mother and her young daughter. What begins as an innocent game gradually unfolds into a moment of confrontation and emotional reversal, where boundaries blur and hidden truths surface. Through its minimalist dialogue and intimate framing, the film delves into power, desire, and the unspoken complexities within familial relationships.
