Biography

Laila Samy is an Egyptian-British multidisciplinary artist, based in London with an MA in Music Performance from London College of music UWL (2025), a B.A. Honours in Cinematography from the Higher Institute of Cinema, Cairo (2009), and a B.A. Honours in English Literature from Cairo University (2001). Her work explores identity, women’s lived experience, exile and belonging, and the politics of embodiment within contested public spaces, drawing on voice, music, dialect, folklore, and oral storytelling as central artistic languages.

Her career spans international festivals, stage productions, and acclaimed films, including The Yacoubian Building, Aquarium, and In the Last Days of the City. In addition to her work as a performer, she has collaborated with established cultural institutions and worked as a director of photography on both fiction and documentary projects.

With a career rooted in long-standing artistic practice across Cairo and London, Laila Samy brings extensive experience in performance, film, and cross-cultural collaboration. Her work reflects a mature artistic vision and a sustained presence within contemporary music, performance, and cinema.
