Antibodies is a performance project co-created by Laila Samy and Sara Ismail (2018). It is an exploration into sensation and memory within the body and the journeys we take to understand the sum of its parts.
Antibodies
A woman journeys into key moments of her embodiment. In conversation with a life-size puppet, she rearranges parts of the body to suit the tightening space surrounding her. In constant transformation, she enters into states where she is reborn into new bodies. She wears and moves each of those bodies that were moulded by situations and social spaces. The project asks how the body is affected by its surroundings. It investigates the real external and internalised authorities upon female bodies. It questions the limitations our bodies face while trying to expand.
